Your partner, Rik Davies, lays sprawling face up on the wooden floorboards. A trail of blood seeping from the knife wound towards the ground. A thin blade still protrudes from his heart.
You slowly edge past the body and, using the desk as a support, stumble towards the chair. You collapses onto it. On the desk is strewn a pile of papers. You glance at the telephone. Should you call the police? But that would involve a lot of explaining.
From the chair you glance towards the office door a few yards in front of you. Should you leave now before calling the police and the inevitable delay that would involve?
On your right hand side the filing cabinet has its top drawer open. Is this a clue? Was your partner looking for something? On your left hand side the bookcase holds numerous legal works and assorted paperbacks. There is also something else there. The desk immediately in front of you has several drawers.
"What to do?" You think. "I have to decide. And I have to decide quickly."

However, with the light switched on, you realise what looked like a head on the dressing room table was, in fact, just a blonde wig on a stand.

The door of Hardwick Jones' Jewellry Shop is slightly open. You push it further and enter the darkened store. You fumble around until you find the light switch and turn it on.
Under the energy efficient lighting it takes you a few seconds to realise that the shop has been turned over. Display cases are scattered along with their content of rings and brooches onto the floor. A glass cabinet containing watches has been smashed and splinters of glass shine like diamonds across the carpet. Someone had obviously been looking for something.
Of Hardwick Jones there is no sign. In your mind a theory is beginning to form. But you don't like where it is heading. You slip out of the shop quietly and make your way back towards your car.

Welcome to Swansea Noir where you play the part of a private detective investigating the death of his partner. The choices you make determine the outcome of the game.
The Game is divided into Chapters and a Screen will inform you each time you complete a Chapter.
Choices are shown in (text-colour:blue)[blue]. The Choices available vary throughout the game depending on your progress. One Choice that is commonly available is (text-colour:green)[Inventory] where you can view the items already found. Use the (text-style:"underline")[Go Back] link to return to where you were in the game.
The Inventory is also the place where you can Save Games. You can Load a Previous Game from there as well or from the Title. Be careful though as there is only One Save Slot. Clearing the Cache on your Browser will also remove the Save File.
You can revisit Choices already made, but be careful, too many revisits result in time lost and arrest by the police - ''Game Over!''
Keep an eye on your Status which is shown in (text-colour:yellow)[yellow]. Too low a health and you may be killed. The Status also shows you how many items you have found and the amount of money you have available for food, drink and to pay informers etc.
At times in the game you will have the option of visiting the (text-colour:red)[Cash Machine] to draw out more money. However, you only have £500 in the Bank.
Finally, if you chose full screen on the title page you can always return to a windowed screen later in the game by pressing Escape on your keyboard.

As the door slowly closes behind, you become aware of a group of men sitting at a table. Ho Ling is amongst them.
"Ah, Mr Nelson" he says. His voice jovial but his eyes as cold and dead as a rattlesnake in the Arizona desert. "We are closed, but also happy to greet an old acquaintance. How is your partner? Well I hope."
You look around and notice a menu.

"Such a nice girl" Ho Ling smirked. "Pity she moved on. Our clients liked her."
"Look Ho Ling" you say, looking him straight in the eyes. "We both know something is wrong. Why not pool our resources. After all you could do without the heat affecting your business."
He looks you over carefully. "I'm a businessman but also a gambler. Throw a six on this dice and then we will talk. It will bless our conversation with luck."

You pick up the dice and feel its weight in the palm of your hand, then roll it across the table.

You see no point in holding back, so you tell Ho Ling all you have found out as he listens in respectful silence. Then, when you have finished, he speaks.

"I am sorry to hear about your partner, I did not know him well but our paths crossed on business matters occasionally. I am also sorry to hear about Morag. Be assured, I had nothing to do with either death. I know Morag worked for your partner as an informer. But mainly he worked for us. He was useful for gathering business information about possible clients and competitors etc. He never gave information to the police, unless we asked him to of course."
After a short pause, which could be taken as a sign of respect, Ho Ling continued.
"You are an intelligent man Mr Nelson, let me put a hypothetical scenario to you and let you reach your own conclusions." Taking your nod for agreement, he continues.
"Let us say that as part of our business we supply attractive young girls to entertain influential figures in their own homes. All voluntary I assure you. The girls are well rewarded. We are well rewarded. All the parties are happy with the transaction. Now, what if one of these girls took a valuable object from one of these homes? Perhaps she tried to have Morag sell it through his contact Hardwick Jones. Morag, of course, would not have done this if he knew of our connection. But, perhaps, she did not tell him."
The story was fitting in nicely with your own suspicions. Perhaps too nicely.
"Now", Ho Ling said, "in this scenario no one is happy. The influential figure is furious and blames us for the theft. We are unhappy as our reputation is at stake. The girl is unhappy as two men are dead and she thinks she may be next."
"But", you say, "who is doing the killing?"
"That we would all like to know. We are hunting for the girl and the object. But, so far have killed no one. If you find the object return it to us and we will call off the search and try and restore our reputation."
"Who was the influential person and what was taken?" you ask.
"I'm afraid Mr Nelson our time is up. You must leave now."
There is no arguing with Ho Ling's cold eyes. You need to get back to the office to mull over all you have learned so far. You make your way back to your car.

You decide the time has come to tell the police what you know. You phone Detective Inspector Rogers at Serious Crimes, one of the few policemen you trust. He tells you to wait where you are until he comes.
When he arrives you outline what you have found out and hand over all the evidence you found at the crime scenes. However, you keep the loaded gun and do not mention it.
Rogers is furious and gives you a serious dressing down. He tells you to leave matters with the police and to stay out of it. You expected this and although agreeing with Rogers decided to ignore his warning.
He arranges for Rik's body to be removed after his forensic team have finished and, after another stern warning, Rogers departs. You are left alone in the office with your thoughts.]
